The 3+ day Japanese new year is over now. The Chinese one`s coming up next week though. guess its too bad then that there`s only 1 Chinese family around here. its alright actually, i`ve had enough rice cakes to last me the rest of my natural life. I`m a huge fan of Japanese food, but the rice cake "sweets" they roll out around new years time are fucking terrible. This was my first new years in Japan is the thing, so I had no way of knowing. Anyway, that brings the list of Japanese foods I hate up to 3.
it was kinda surprising how no one really cares about Chrismtmas here (KFC is the traditional Christmas dinner in my part of the country...i wish that was a joke but it`s not) maybe it was surprising to my friends how I in turn wasn`t really interested in お正月? Well i might not celebrate their new year, but I still found this to be extremely amusing
did you notice what`s in the URL: Culinary terrorism?? I thought that was more along the lines of what I do in the kitchen, rather than poorly prepared food.
PERSPECTIVE!!!! what`s the most important family holiday where you come from? Chances are it involves a meal of some sort. let`s say you decide to buy the thing, whatever it is, instead of cooking it. now imagine someone pisses on it right before the guests arrive and you kinda get the idea. tears were most certainly shed. in my stereotype riddled opinion, ruining a 正月 party like this would be something you`d remember for the rest of your life....if you`re Japanese. Well, at times like these living on the fringes of this society doesn`t seem all that bad at all!
most of all, you gotta love the reaction from some people on this, i.e. a "real" Japanese woman would painstakingly make this stuff herself instead of buying it. Nice, Japan. but yeah, seriously who do they think they are, trying to make their life easier like that? that`s not Japanese!!
that was just a joke
any 日本語 readers out there? here`s a bilingual bonus for you, Japanese only sorry. I`m roughly 1/10th of the way to being legally literate in this country, but here`s what i was able to comprehend: basically Hitler is the CEO of Groupon and he`s yelling at the Nazis because they didn`t get cheese, etc. for the Osechi boxes.
i`m betting i wont be seeing any ads from Groupon any time soon. i don`t understand how businesses work, but if there`s a video on youtube comparing you to Hitler, you probably fucked up somewhere?

well first of all there`s some new anti smoking ads for the winter season

here`s the A-bombed dome

and the peace park (part of it)

and shrine island

and the local specialty, Hiroshima`s version of Okonomiyaki. it`s not everything it was cracked up to be though. i`m not a huge fan of okonomiyaki anyway

regardless, it was still a good trip. wish i had more to say about it

what ive been doing
well there hasnt been a post here in awhile. truth is, my old computer finally gave up on life. but i got a new one, a Japanese one. im still looking for the apostrophe on this Japanese keyboard. but thats okay, you dont always need to punctuate things. now that i have the computer im willing to blog again, because blogging from the cell phone is a crap sandwhich.
anyway, while i dont have time to write a post today, im hoping to get one done tomorrow or monday (national holiday), because i had a pretty interesting vacation.
