Groupon is a fairly successful US company, which acts as an aggregator of orders for smaller, generally local companies. They're probably happy just to be getting publicity in country, having no real face to lose. If (and only if :) you're currently seeing Groupon ads, I'd bet $10 to 10 yen that you'll continue to do so.

The other company, Bird Cafe, which provided the food is the one which probably is in trouble.

The quick and dirty way to do the selectable text thing, would be to set the color of the text you want hidden to black.

Replace the semicolons with angle brackets. I think it should invert when you select it. Else you might need to make a css entry. I'll be away from my computer for a couple days, but you might try that.
